CiviCRM is an outstanding CRM system for use with Joomla-powered Websites. The CiviMail feature is a powerful, robust way of sending emails for contacts within CiviCRM. CorFun has been very pleased with our projects that used CiviCRM for contact management, donation management, and eNewsletter management. Despite being very pleased overall, CorFun noticed a huge drop off in newsletter registrations on every site on which we replaced a solution such as JNews with the CiviMail function within CiviCRM. Having a button to click to sign up for the newsletter, a link on a menu, and invitations in articles simply do not take the place of a prominently displayed eNewsletter sign up module. So CorFun coded one called CiviNews and made it available for both Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 1.7
CiviNews is the eNewsletter sign up form that CiviCRM has been missing. In the module, you can display just the basic fields for getting a subscriber active in a CiviCRM group that is assigned to an eNewsletter. Configuration options let you pick which CiviCRM group users are added to when registering. You can also redirect to a custom page that either finishes the process, or (optionally) asks for more information to build a complete profile for the new contact. If the new contact chooses not to provide the additional information you ask for, then they are still part of your newsletter mailings.
On every CiviCRM site on which we have used CiviNews CorFun has seen a huge increase in turning site visitors into eNewsletter subscribers. And, over time, we have been able to convert those subscribers into members and donors. Your Joomla site using CiviCRM can have this same dynamic working for you.
