There are a lot of Google Mapping module integrations for Joomla. Most, however, really only focus on putting a single location on a Google Map to show your location or some other address. You can put the module on your Joomla site, and potential customers can find their way to your location. Question is - what if you need multiple locations mapped at once? Or, what if you would like your Joomla site to feature a map with the Google Search Bar integrated in? That is where JMaps from CorFun comes in - the easiest and best Google Mapping integration for Joomla.
JMaps is a native Joomla 1.7 module that brings Google mapping to your Joomla site in a number of ways. First, it can read and display a custom XML file. That lets you put an unlimited number of markers on a single map! Have multiple locations? Have distributors selling your products that you want to route customers to? Create a simple XML file, and JMaps can show all your locations to the eager public at a glance. Instead of a simple map just showing one location at a time, show them all on a map at once!
Even better, JMaps can optionally show a Google Search Bar. This Search Bar can be shown in addition to your own markers, or you can just use JMaps module only to display the Google Search Bar functionality.
The image to the right shows a search using the Google Search Bar with a custom marker from an XML file also showing on the map.
This is ideal for sites which have some paid listings, but want to combine those paid listings with a robust Google Search. Here, you get the best of both worlds.
In addition, JMaps can map KLM, KMZ, and RSS feeds! You can even combine all three - show custom markers from an XML file, results from the Google Search Bar, and entries from an external feed. The map to the left shows results from an external feed in blue, with two custom markers in red being brought in from a custom XML file. If you can get to a feed source, then you can pull that data in and show it on a map.
This has been used extensively by realtors, non-profits that show data from a parent organization, sites that publicize events, and many others.
In addition to its Google Search Bar, XML mapping, and feed mapping capabilities, JMaps can be combined with Community Builder to map your site's Community Builder User Lists. This has been very popular with Chambers of Commerce, social networking sites, professional directories built around Community Builder, non-profits, and even sports clubs that use location to help meet up for sports events. SOBIPro mapping is being developed as well to bring directory mapping up to Joomla 1.7
