Overview

The Login Redirect Component is very simple to configure and has the following features:

  • Define a default login URL (page) to display for any User Group (class) for which a specific URL is not defined.
  • Define up to 10 different URLs (pages) to display to different groups (classes) of users at login.
  • Works with native Joomla ACL (Registered, Author, etc.) and works with any component, such as JACLPlus, which creates custom user groups (classes) using the core Joomla functionality. Login redirect does not work for components which create external ACL other than Juga.  If you have a questions about the compatibility of a component, then please ask before you buy Login Redirect.  We may be willing to modify the software to support your specific need free of charge.
  • Easy to set up as you only define the User Class name and the URL.
  • Can work to redirect users to any URL, including a completely different Website, a specific Joomla page, or a specific Joomla component! Anything reached via a URL on any Website can be used as a redirect.
  • Works with any Joomla login module (native Joomla login, CB Login, Signal Login, etc.) or component that has a Login URL feature!
  • Works with or without Community Builder!
  • Makes a great compliment to any site with different user groups.

Installation

The Login Redirect Component installs into Joomla 1.5 the same as any other component. Simply download the zip file, and install using the Joomla installer in the administrator backend.

Component Configuration

After installation, perform the following tasks to properly use your Login Redirect Component from CorFun.

1) Pick the target URL for each of your user classes. You will need to enter all of them as fully-qualified URLs into the component. That means entering all of them with the http:// prefix and the full URL. Don't use relative URLs. One of the URLs can be a default for User Groups which do not have a specified URL for login.

2) Pick the User Groups which will have custom URL redirects. You will need to enter the name of each desired User Group into the component. You do not have to specify a URL for each User Group. Any User Group without a specified URL will see the default URL specified first in the list in the component.

3) Fill in the list of User Groups and URLs as shown below:

For each User Group desired (up to 10 different groups) enter the name of the User Group and the fully qualified URL to display after login. The URL can be either a SEF or non-SEF URL. It can be a URL to a page locally, to an outside URL, or to a URL which invokes a Joomla Component. The first URL also functions as a default URL. Any user signing in to the system belonging to a User Group without a specified URL will be directed to the default URL.

Login Module Configuration

Login modules for Joomla offer two different types of login URL functionality.

Direct URL Entry:

The first type allows you to specify a URL. An example of this type is the Community Builder (CB) login module as shown below:

You can enter the URL to the Login Redirect Component as a relative URL in most login modules. Enter the following URL:

index.php?option=com_loginredirect

If your login module requires a fully qualified URL, then simply enter it as http://www.mysite.com/index.php?option=com_loginredirect

After setting the URL to the Login Redirect component in your login module, you are done with setup. Any user logging in through the module will see the correct Web page based on either the default URL or the URL assigned to that user's User Group.

Page Specification

The default Joomla login module (and some custom modules) allow you to specify a page to use for login display. In order to choose the Login Redirect Component as a page, it is first necessary to publish a link to that component on a menu.

NOTE: The menu link should be on a menu that is not visible. (An easy way to accomplish this is to have no Menu Module published which is set to display the menu.) Do not set the link to 'Registered' or some other User Group access. That can restrict the functioning of the Login Redirect Component. Set the menu link to 'Public' access as shown below:

In the Login Module, select the page link to the Login Redirect Menu item as shown below:

There must be a menu link to the Login Redirect Component for this type of login module!

After you have selected the Login Redirect menu link, you are done with setup. Any user logging in through the module will see the correct Web page based on either the default URL or the URL assigned to that user's User Group.

For Juga Users Only

With Juga a user can be associated with multiple groups. The key to setting up a login redirect is the group number. To find the group number go to Juga under Components in the backend and select Groups.

 The Group number is listed on the left hand side followed by the group name. Choose the group numbers you want to redirect at login and the appropriate URL.
 

 

Next go to the component LoginRedirect in the backend.  You will need to enter the word Juga as the first security group.  Enter the default URL to use whenever someone logs in that does not have a specific landing page into the first URL position (This can be the home page URL).  Next enter the group numbers and the associated URLs in the following slots. 

 

 
If a person is associated with multiple groups, and a redirect is set up for the multiple groups, the redirect for the lowest group number will be used. There is no problem with a user being associated with multiple groups. Each group number the user is associate with will be tested to see if a redirect is to occur.
