TOPIC: [SOLVED] can't get carousel to work

[SOLVED] can't get carousel to work 2 years, 10 months ago #321

Hi,
I just downloaded JCarousel but I can't get it to work. I just want to have a single image showing at a time with the arrows to change them and no scroll effect. I set up the parameters to do this but none of the products show up on the page at all. I'm using thumbnails and sized the image to match that of the virtuemart product but it doesn't work. Also since there is only one place to set the images, does that mean all of my virtuemart images must be the same size?

the site is www.chiplikesrowing.com

So I have three products in the carousel now and they all show up (they are the same dimensions as set in the parameters). However, they only show up in vertical mode (i'd like them to be in horizontal mode) and there is no carousel effect. I have everything set to only show one product at a time but it shows all three and does not have the arrows for the carousel (just has dots next to each item) nor is there any kind of effect whatsoever.

Greetings -

I edited your prior post to take out the username and password. Please don't post those in an open forum like this. I did try them, however, and was unable to log in.

Is your site officially 'offline?' When building a site, we normally keep the site online, but create an index.html file to serve as a 'coming soon' announcement. Most Apache servers are configured to render an index.html file first, so the index.php file is not presented unless someone actually types in the correct string such as "www.corshops.com/index.php" That method allows us to work on a site and have no one find it during the process. The admin and site owners can find the site, as they know to add the /index.php to the domain name.

In any case, please send working creds to glen at corfun.com and I will look at it.

Thanks,

Glen

So I just ran the module on a fresh joomla template from a virtual machine and it works fine. I guess that means the template I'm using online is causing the problems. Any idea how to fix this?

I'm using ja_rutile for a template if that helps at all.

Hello -

The error showing up in the error console on Firefox is stating that JQuery is undefined. When I looked at the source code for your test site, the URL for the JQuery library is as follows:

<!-- jQuery library -->
'\u003cscript language=\u0022javascript\u0022 \src=\u0022independentrowingnews.com/modules/mod_vm_j_scroller/js/jquery-1.2.6.js\u0022>\u003c
}

Please note that the module (for whatever reason) is going over to the independentrowingnews.com site to find the JQuery library. I am assuming that you don't have the scroller installed out there. Try installing the module out there, even if you don't enable it. Then see what happens. I am guessing that part of the problem could be how your testing site was created. All through the code, it is referring back to the production site for code.

If that doesn't work, then we may actually have a conflict, but to figure that out, we actually have to get JQuery to instantiate.

Thanks, that helped a lot. It's working now but the dots are still next to each product and each image is pushed way to the right
