TOPIC: can this be used in the category layout view?

can this be used in the category layout view? 3 years, 4 months ago #36

Brilliant extension, works a treat!

I also bought the GEO Category google map, but using the two seperate maps causes these problems for me..

Having 1 column of entries in category view (setting needs to be 1 column for the search results) and also having the geo category view map in a module position looks rubbish compared to having the "google mapping for search results" floating up/down to the right of the listed entries. having the numbered icon in the v-card is redundant in category view.

Is there a way to perhaps paste the code into one of the member .php files somewhere to use the "geo category google map" show in category view? Has anyone done this, or any pointers?

I'm sorry for not responding sooner. I'm not sure I fully understand what you are asking. Can I look at your site to see the problem? I will also check with my associate to see if he may have a better understanding of your question. He has more experience with SOBI2 than I do.

The one thing I can tell you is that the timing of when the floating map is generated is critical. Trying to move it to another member would be a pretty drastic change.

Let me know if you want me to look at your site (I'll need the URL). I post more later after I have a chance to speak with Glen.

I'll do my best to help if I can.

Greetings Richard -

Actually, no one has tried to use these two together yet. Or at least, if they have, they haven't shared. We have had at least two people use this tool in place of the category module.

They did this by creating a menu that had each category as a link that was to a predefined search. If you check the SOBI2 homepage, there is a list of special links, including the syntax for searches. By specifying the category in a link, the page comes up as if it were a search. The users then have the search box at the top (unless disabled in the config) and the map on the side. That looks like a good workaround. Other than that, we haven't done any real integration on these two.

The other suggestion might be to have the category module embedded the way the search map is embedded. I know it is designed to work in a standard Joomla module position, but perhaps it could be embedded inside a floating div?
