I have installed as per instuctions. Have direted the login rdiect within the CB module to the LR url as provided (long version was required). Have the select field spelt correctly etc. Is not even going to default page. This is where it tries togo, which

Sorry you are having some problems with this. Please take a screen shot of the CB login module parameters showing the URL for login redirect. Please take a screen capture of your parameters. Then please send them to me.

Do you have the CB LOGIN Redirect as You can enter the URL to the Login Redirect Component as a relative URL in most login modules. Enter the following URL:
index.php?option=com_loginredirectcb
