SOBI2 and JMaps And What They Can Build!
SOBI2 is the premier directory component for Joomla. JMaps takes SOBI2's power and extends it by taking the entries in the directory and putting it on interactive Google maps! This article gives an overview of what SOBI2 can do, and especially what you can build by combining SOBI2 with the JMaps module and plugins from CorFun!
TargetMail Now Supports jNews
Target Mail the powerful integration tool that works with Community Builder, Virtuemart and Acajoom now supports jNews. CorFun announced the enhancement on June 20, 2010. The enhancement will allow webmaster using jNews to communiate with users the ability to selectively add individuals registered in Community Builder to Newsletter lists. Target Mail works with the powerful native User List search features in CB to add users to one or more jNews or Acajoom mailing lists based on any searchable criteria and even based on products purchases in your Virtuemart Store!
Login Redirect for Joomla User
The native login module for Joomla along with custom login modules (such as the one from Community Builder) have long allowed webmasters to specify a single page or URL to show when a user logs in. That is very helpful to route users, for example, to their profiles or to a page of the latest news or a list of the latest offers.
For many sites, that functionality is just fine. Often, however, Webmasters find they need to display a different 'welcome' screen for Registered users, versus Authors, versus Editors, versus Publishers, etc. Then the native login module functionality can get somewhat restrictive.
If you run a membership-based site, using Account Expiration Component (AEC) and JACLPLus for example, the problem is even more pronounced. You can sell a user a membership using AEC and assign that user to a specific User Group created via JACLPlus. However, the login module will show all users the same screen on logging in. Webmasters often need to get specific information to specific User Groups. Suppose Free Membership users should go to a screen encouraging them to upgrade, while Platinum-level users should go straight to a page full of goodies just for them? The native functionality of Joomla simply doesn't allow this to happen!
For Community Builder check out Login Redirect for Community by clicking here. This component allows you to redirect based off of any selection fields.
Inexpensive Image Swap Rollover Menu Delivers a Flash Look Without the Cost
Image menus are a hot design item, especially for getting attention to your primary products. You have one image to get attention, then when the user puts the mouse on the primary image, the image changes. The rollover image can be a different view of the default image, or it can be a completely different one. The image usually has a link so that it work as a "call to action" to get the user to visit the link.
Rollover menus like this are often done as Flash objects. That is a slick way to do things, but also an expensive way as these custom Flash menus can be quite costly. Once they are done, they are also impossible for non-technical people to edit. The Flash is fixed and final, so changes to your product line, event schedule, Website content, etc. will not be reflected in the Flash. At CorFun, we've dealt with this problem by creating an inexpensive Joomla module that gives you the rollover image menu effect, but without all the headaches.
